Newcastle United have triggered Hull City midfielder Mo Diame's release clause, according to Sky Sports.

The report claims that the player is expected to undergo his medical on Tuesday after the Magpies activated his £4.5million release clause.

However, the Tigers are reportedly planning to offer Diame a new contract to convince him to stay at the club following their promotion to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals in 50 appearances for the Tigers after joining them from West Ham United in 2014.
