LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena believes that the state of Major League Soccer will only be improved by having American people involved.
The former USA national team coach has been coaching MLS clubs since 1996 (apart from his national duties between 1998 and 2006) and he is of the premise that American soccer can only develop if those with a vested interest lead the renaissance.
"It's no secret that I'm still a believer in American players," he said. "We have a large number of American players that play her (at the Galaxy). Some of the teams in this league have very few. I think that's foolish.
"There has to be the right balance. This league is here to help develop the game in this country. And it's got to be developed with American players and American coaches.
"And that's always been my philosophy."
