Liverpool youngster Liam Millar netted two goals for the under-21 side against Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.

The Reds were involved in the final group game of the competition, having lost the first two against Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers.

While they were already ruled out of qualification for the knockout rounds, pride was at stake.

And the youngsters gave a good account of themselves, despite sustaining a third successive defeat.

Port Vale emerged 4-2 victors on the night.

Millar was the one bright spot for Liverpool, scoring two stunning goals.

But their defence was exposed for its naivety at times.
