Milan mayor apologises to Napoli defender Koulibaly after disturbing San Siro scenes

The mayor of Milan has apologised to Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegal defender was the subject of monkey chants throughout defeat at Inter Milan before he was sent off.

Giuseppe Sala, the city's mayor, is a regular at San Siro games and stated this morning: "In this case I will do something very simple. I will continue to see Inter, but at the first 'buu' I will make a small gesture, I will get up and leave. I will do it for myself, aware of the fact that whoever yells at a black athlete will not give a damn about me. But I will do it.

"Inter FC will do what it thinks. I would like that against Empoli the captain's armband would go to (Kwadwo) Asamoah. In the meantime, I apologise to Kalidou Koulibaly, on my behalf and for Milan, we want to testify that we can feel as brothers despite the difficult times we live in."
