Middlesbrough's McDonald facing eight weeks out

Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald could be sidelined for as much as weeks with a knee problem.

The Australian international sustained knee ligament damage during the second half of Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Leicester City and manager Tony Mowbray fears the worst.

"He will be out for six to eight weeks, four to six weeks, take your pick," said Mowbray.

"He's desperately unhappy and it's another big loss for us."

McDonald leveled for Boro after David Nugent's opener for his ninth goal of the Championship season but could now miss up to 12 matches as the Teessiders continue to chase a promotion play-off spot.
