Middlesbrough pair Wheater and Riggott undergo surgery

Middlesbrough pair David Wheater and Chris Riggott have both undergone successful surgery.

Wheater had surgery on damaged knee cartilage which he played the end of the season with in a bid to try to keep his club in the top flight but at least now will be able to take part in pre-season training.

"This morning's surgery was a complete success and Wheater is expected to be ready to return to pre-season training," a club spokesman said.

Riggott had ankle surgery after a tough season littered with injuries that saw him make just 20 appearances.
