Martin de Roon is set to undergo a medical with Middlesbrough.

Reports suggest that the Dutch defensive midfielder will join the Premier League returnees from Italian club Atalanta for a fee of £12million.

It is understood that de Roon, 25, is due on Teesside this week after Boro agreed the aforementioned fee with Atalanta.

The former Sparta Rotterdam and Heerenveen will become Aitor Karanka's third summer signing, following Colombian defender Bernardo Espinosa and Danish forward Viktor Fischer.
