Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is moving for Celtic defender Gary Caldwell.

The News of the World says Strachan wants the Celtic captain, 27, as part of a major overhaul of the squad he inherited from Gareth Southgate.

He sees Caldwell's leadership qualities as crucial and the Scotland defender is available for a knockdown fee, with his contract due to expire next summer.

Burnley are also interest in the ex-Newcastle trainee.
