Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen says the return of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the right call.
Meulensteen now believes the club is back on the right track under Solskjaer, who he knows well from their time together at Old Trafford.
"I think it's very obvious that everybody felt the need, after so much time moving away from the Sir Alex Ferguson era, that they needed to bring somebody back that understands the culture of the club and the Ferguson ethos," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"That's why they brought Ole back, with Mick Phelan still there. They want to rebuild the club with a similar ethos to what Sir Alex did over so many years. I can understand that."
Meulensteen added: "When you see now the messages that Ole sends out about the players that he wanted at the club, really clear messages that he wants to re-instil. So probably if you asked Ole himself, he'd say he feels more at ease managing United than he did at Cardiff. It might sound strange but it's because he was here. He knows what it's like.
"Ole himself was a very tactical player. Very good at reading the game, very tactically astute and I'm sure he's got a very clear idea of how he wants United to play the game."
