Christoph Metzelder arrived in Spain yesterday to kickoff his Real Madrid career.

The Germany international defender is joining Real from Borussia Dortmund on a Bosman and told the club's website: "I'm very moved by everything that has happened to me.

"I really want to meet my new teammates, I'm ready to go to work straight away.

"It is a great honor and a challenge to be part of this team, especially after they have won the Spanish Liga. I hope that this coming season the successes and the triumphs will continue.

"It is a dream made reality. Madrid is a great team which I hope to help to win more titles. I will try to do my best and I hope to adjust as quickly as possible."

Metzelder is due to have his final Madrid medical tomorrow.
