Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has broken his silence on the club's online PR controversy.

Messi has spoken about the controversial matter regarding claims that Barcelona paid a PR company to publicly disparage certain club figures, including the Argentine himself.

The No.10 made clear that he doesn't know any more details about the issue than the general public.

"The truth is that it surprised me a bit because I wasn't here and I was traveling," he told Mundo Deportivo, who published a snippet from a larger interview that is due to come out.

"When I arrived I found out a bit about everything.

"The president told us the same thing he said in public, the same thing he said at the press conference.

"He told us what the situation was and what happened.

"I can't say much more.

"He said to the captains in private the same thing that everyone knows.

"The truth is that it seems a bit strange that such a thing happens.

"But they also said there would be evidence.

"We have to wait to see if it's true or not.

"We can't say much and we have to wait to see what happens with all this.

"For me it seemed like a really strange issue."
