Mertesacker insists Arsenal Champions League hopes not over

Per Mertesacker insists Arsenal's Champions League hopes are not over after last night's defeat to AS Monaco.

Mertesacker is refusing to give up hope of reaching the last eight, but accepts it will take something extraordinary to progress.

He said: "We have seen a lot of miracle nights in all competitions. European nights can be very frustrating, but they can also be wonderful. We need a wonderful night.

"A lot of things went against us. We found our own teammate instead of the net a couple of times. A lot of things went wrong. We still kept going.

"Sometimes the crowd want to see better results, especially at home because they know it will be tough at Monaco.

"We try to create a special atmosphere with our travelling fans. We are capable of doing special things, even away from home.

"Let's try to raise everyone's level at Monaco. Let's try to get in our rhythm there. We could have scored more than three goals last night and we can hurt them."
