Mertens agent fires warning at Napoli

The agent of Dries Mertens has cast doubt over his future with Napoli.

The midfielder is frustrated over his lack of playing opportunities this season.

"I saw Napoli-Juventus, the match was conditioned by the numerous refereeing errors," began Mertens' agent Soren Lerby today on Radio Crc.

"I was in Naples [this week] because I like the city, but also to have a discussion with the club, so we can reason together one step at a time.

"Mertens is a player of great quality and he certainly wants to play with greater continuity. For instance he expected a starter's shirt against Juventus, he was keen on it.

"You can see that from the way he played when he actually came into the match.

"He was in great shape and he did what he could to change the match. He succeeded in part, but then we all know how it went.

"Qualifying for the Champions League is not a necessary condition for Dries to stay in Naples. We'll evaluate his future step by step.

"[Rafa] Benitez is a great name, a high-sounding Coach, but the situation is particular because I'd like the Spaniard to give more playing time to Mertens."
