Merson claims Klopp or Guardiola couldn't fix Arsenal

Arsenal legend Paul Merson says Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp would struggle at his former club.

The Gunners are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Unai Emery, with Freddie Ljungberg acting as caretaker.

"I said recently that [Leicester City boss] Brendan Rodgers would go to Arsenal because of the size of the club," Merson said on Sky Sports.

"But after the weekend and the game on Thursday, I'm thinking why would you go to Arsenal? Why? What can you do there?

"Freddie can't be that bad but he looks like he's never managed a team before. It looks like he's lost.

"He's got the badges, he's worked with the youngsters and he must be thinking: "What chance have I got?" These are international players but he [Freddie] hasn't got a chance."

Quizzed on whether Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is the clear candidate to replace Unai Emery on a full-time basis, Merson added: "You'd like to think so, but why would he come?

"He's a legend, an absolute legend. You're asking him to come in and turn this around. He's managing in France and not doing great.

"I think Klopp and Guardiola would struggle to come in and turn it around. It's one of the worst jobs in the game.

"And then you look at [Max] Allegri… why would he take the job? He's won all those leagues titles [in Italy with Juventus] – why would he go to Arsenal?"
