Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino says he is happy on Tyneside but will take time to think about his future at the end of the season.

The Spaniard, who signed with Newcastle from Borussia Dortmund this season, has recently been linked with Athletic Bilbao.

"I'm happy. I'm just focusing on playing football and enjoying myself," Merino said of the speculation surrounding his future.

"We have these two matches, and then I'll clear my mind and relax with my family and loved ones and enjoy my holidays."
