John Mensah has so far done himself no harm at the World Cup in his bid to win a permanent deal with Sunderland.
The Lyon defender is available for £6 million, but Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is reluctant due to the Ghana defender's injury problems.
However, Mensah did finally complete 90 minutes for Ghana in the win and clean sheet against Serbia.
