Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy's year is over due to knee surgery.
He played the full 90 minutes against rivals Man United at the weekend before travelling to join up with the France squad.
But he pulled out of international duty and now seems unlikely to appear again in 2018, although City have not put a time frame on his absence.
Mendy, 24, attended Dr Cugat's clinic in Barcelona and underwent scans which confirmed he needed surgery, City confirmed on Wednesday night.
"That surgery was conducted on Wednesday evening and everyone at Manchester City wishes Benjamin a speedy recovery," a club statement added.
Mendy missed seven months of last season after rupturing the ACL in his right knee, though the current setback is unrelated.
