Mel vows to keep West Brom in Premier League

Pepe Mel has been impressed by West Bromwich's Albion form since he took the reins at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have drawn 1-1 with Everton, lost 4-3 after an early lead in the West Midlands derby with Aston Villa and held Liverpool to another 1-1 draw in his first three league matches in charge.

Those results have Albion sitting 16th on the table, just a point above the drop zone, but Mel is confident they have the formula and quality to avoid dropping back to the Championship.

"I think two weeks is good work for us," the Spaniard said ahead of this weekend's trip to 17th-placed Crystal Palace.

"I think this week will be even better for us in getting the message across. We have good work to do at the training ground.

"It was very important not to lose yesterday [Sunday] because the players need to believe.

"To lose two games would be no good for us so we had to get something from the Liverpool game.

"The Premier League table is very compact. For us it was important that we work day to day, week to week and we need to make sure West Bromwich remains in the Premier League."
