Gary Megson has taken over at West Brom until further notice following the sacking of Tony Pulis, and the former Baggies boss has been holding his first press conference in which the description 'caretaker boss' was given short shrift.
"I've only been here four months and that was to help my mate," he told Sky Sports.
"I'm not the manager. There's no such thing as a caretaker manager. I'm doing this because we haven't got one. I don't like that when someone takes over. That's not the way it works."
Pulis was booed off the pitch after West Brom's defeat by Chelsea at the weekend.
Did he lose the dressing room as well as the fans?
"That's a misnomer," explained Megson.
"When you're a manager, there are players who aren't picked and they aren't going to be as happy as the players that are picked. It goes hand in hand."
On his future in charge, Megson said: "The chairman spoke to me yesterday morning. He told me what happened with Tony and asked whether I would take over. It's in my contract. I've not asked how long it will be for. I'll keep going until I'm told otherwise."
