McManaman cools Birmingham board push

Steve McManaman has distanced himself from becoming a Birmingham director.

Carson Yeung wants McManaman to be one of his two representatives on the St Andrew's board.

Former China captain Fan Zhiyi, another of Yeung's special advisers, is the other nominee the Hong Kong tycoon has proposed via notices for the club's annual meeting on February 20.

Blues are duty bound to put Yeung's demand to a vote, and have advised shareholders to block the move.

McManaman, speaking as Setanta Sports lead pundit before they televised the Arsenal-Blackburn Rovers game on Tuesday night, claimed it was "not true".

"It was in the papers but I'm not interested in becoming a director of Birmingham City at the moment. Everything you read is wrong."
