McLeish excited about building something special at Birmingham

Alex McLeish is excited about building something special at Birmingham City.

McLeish has entered new long-term contract talks with the Brum board.

And he told bcfc.com: "The infrastructure is very important. We've really punched above our weight this season and there's no way that we can maintain this level of performance and consistency without getting the infrastructure right.

"I've got say that the board have given me everything that I've asked for and I'm delighted with that support. They know I'll be asking for more things and I'm sure, step by step, I'll be given everything that I've asked for.

"They've helped us with smaller but absolutely necessary things such as a new sports science doctor and we're also looking to reorganise the physiotherapy side. Some clubs are working with five or six physios and we've only got a couple so there are big demands on the medical department to keep players fit.

"I know the club would think about owning their own training ground but that's going to be a few years down the line. In the meantime if we can do everything we can to ensure that the players have got top level support.

"Players like to be as fit as possible, they want it done right and then we will certainly have a better chance of remaining a Premier League team."
