Mick McGuire is in the frame for the top referees job.

The Daily Mail McGuire, former deputy chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, is on the short list of candidates to succeed the retiring Keith Hackett as the Premier League's referees' boss.

McGuire, although a former player, has significant experience of the officials he would manage through his role as a match assessor.
