McCoist says Rangers & Celtic would accept British Super League move

Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes Celtic and Rangers would accept a move to a British Super League.

A recent report in The Sun claimed that top English sides were looking at bringing the Scottish giants into a British league that would represent a major overhaul of the current Premier League.

McCoist, who spoke with talkSPORT, believes both Glasgow clubs would welcome the move, but there would be significant backlash in Scotland.

"We've got to be careful not to sound hypocritical here," Rangers legend McCoist told talkSPORT.

"I mean, how many times have we heard about something like this?

"I think from a Rangers and Celtic point of view it's something that would clearly interest them, and make no mistake about it, the arguments will all come out again that it's financially driven.

"But for Rangers and Celtic the overriding feeling would be they do want to attempt to better themselves and play in a league with those teams, your Liverpools and your Manchester Uniteds.

"Everything is driven by money and, to a certain extent, greed – of course it is.

"But I genuinely don't know what the Motherwell supporters, Kilmarnock supporters, Hibs supporters would think. It would be interesting to hear their views.

"It's an intriguing prospect and possibility, of that there's no doubt. It would be mouth-watering to get Rangers and Celtic vs Liverpool and Manchester United, these ties.

"But more importantly, how would it leave Scottish football? Certainly financially it would leave it in a heck of a mess, because you think about the money the Old Firm generate within Scottish football, a lot of that would be lost and I'm not sure a lot of the clubs could survive.

"A lot of the fans would say, 'och, let them go and do their own stuff', but a lot of them would be bitter."
