Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has urged his players to take inspiration from Daryl Janmaat.

Newcastle have endured a poor start to their campaign and currently find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Understandably, there have been very few Magpies players who have covered themselves in glory with good performances so far but it has to be said that Dutch defender Janmaat has been showing the fight his teammates have been lacking so far.

McClaren is appreciative of Janmaat's efforts and has now urged the rest of the team to follow in the lead of the in-form right-back.

McClaren said: "He's (Janmaat's) been fantastic.

"He epitomises exactly what everyone wants to see. Every team needs 11 of that kind of character, so he's probably the first one who came to me and said I want to play (against Wednesday).

"Great! Let's hope the rest follow suit."
