James McCarthy has no doubts former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell will prove a great signing for Wigan Athletic.
McCarthy piled praise on the Scotland defender and insisted he had selfish reasons for heralding the arrival of his countryman.
McCarthy told the Daily Record: "I thought Gary had a great debut (against Wolves).
"Even though he is just new to the team, he is a loud fella with a big presence who lets you know he's there. I thought him and Bramble were excellent together. Gary is a solid big guy who's great on the ball. He has got everything and he can be a top player here.
"I knew him from Celtic and I am delighted he has joined me at Wigan because at least it is another Scottish voice in the dressing room. I say that because at long last someone else will understand what I'm saying.
"The lads have been ribbing me a bit because of my accent.
"We have had great wind-ups with both the foreigners and the English players as they all struggle to make me out."
