Maupay brace helps Brighton claim away victory over Newcastle

Neal Maupay scored twice as Brighton won 3-0 over Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Sunday.

The Seagulls got off to the best of starts after scoring twice in the first seven minutes.

Tariq Lamptey was tripped by Allan Saint-Maximin in the box, allowing Maupay to convert from the penalty spot.

The Frenchman then had his second three minutes later with a close range finish brought about by some neat work between Lamptey and Leandro Trossard.

Aaron Connolly sealed the victory after 83 minutes before Yves Bissouma was sent off in the dying moments of the game for catching Jamal Lewis in the face with a boot.

Speaking after the game, Brighton boss Graham Potter said: "I'm delighted with the start. It reflects the attitude the players have had all week.

"To keep a clean sheet and score three goals, creating a few more opportunities and limiting our opponents to not much was positive. I'm delighted for the players. It's good to get up and running in the Premier League."
