German legend Lothar Matthaus says James Rodriguez failed to mix during his two seasons on-loan with Bayern Munich.

The Real Madrid attacker is expected to leave this month.

Matthaus told AS: "He seems like a great guy and has a formidable family, but yes, he felt a bit out of it.

"For example, when Bayern won the championship we had dinner to celebrate it all together and he was set apart in a corner, away from the rest of the team. He did not connect. I didn't see him happy.

"He almost did not celebrate the title.

"He was fine in the city, but not so much in the team. Also, (coach Niko) Kovac didn't need a player like him. I already sensed that he was not going to renew because he didn't have the support of the coach."
