Lothar Matthaus has tipped Bayern Munich to win the 2016/17 Champions League title.
The former Germany international and Bayern star believes the team Pep Guardiola assembled at the Allianz Arena has the ability to overcome all before them in Europe thanks to new dos Carlo Ancelotti's relaxed playing style.
While Manchester City are a strong chance under the guidance of Guardiola, Matthaus is of the belief that this season it is Bayern who will come up trumps and dethrone current European champions Real Madrid.
"Everybody is talking about Pep Guardiola and I think that's right," wrote Matthaus for The Sun.
"He is a coach with a fantastic reputation and Manchester City expect a lot from him.
"For me, this is the season when a team built by Guardiola will win the Champions League, as well.
"Unfortunately for City, I think it will be the one he has just left — Bayern Munich.
"And part of that is the difference between Pep and new Bayern chief Carlo Ancelotti.
"Ancelotti is a coach who helps players because he wants to be closer to them than Guardiola is.
"But City, especially with Pep now in charge, should be serious contenders. They can go all the way to the final — and if it is City versus Bayern, what a showdown that would be."
