Matt Targett insists Aston Villa can go for Europe

Matt Targett has set his sights on Aston Villa qualifying for Europe next season.

The Villans secured an 11th placed finish after beating Chelsea on the final day of the season last Sunday.

He said: "This season was a massive step up from last season. We've built on it, made a few great signings who have taken the league by storm.

"I am sure we will kick on again next season and really push on for those European places."

Asked about winning the player's player of the year award, the 25-year-old added: "It is nice to win that award, with players you train with day-in, day-out, they see the hard work you put in.

"To win the award, I can't thank them enough. I can name five or six off the top of my head who all deserve it. It has been a fantastic season personally and I can't wait for next.

"I have huge respect for all the players in the dressing room and I can't thank them enough for voting for me."
