Matt Doherty happy to make winning debut for Atletico Madrid

Matt Doherty was happy to make a winning debut for Atletico Madrid against Sevilla on Saturday.

The free transfer from Tottenham was a second-half substitute.

In his match preview, Atletico coach Diego Simeone had said of Doherty: “He is working very well. He goes from less to more. He has options to play, if it's his turn, we hope he shows what he's doing in training."

The defender only had time to have seven interventions, five passes with 60% accuracy, two of the passes were in the last third of the field. And little more in the 12 minutes that he was able to play.

Doherty, who has a deal to June, later said: "I'm here until the end of the season, but that doesn't have to be the end. That's up to me and I'll try to perform well and see where it takes me.

"Initially now it's just six months, but let's see if I can continue to do well for the club and see what happens in the future."
