Antoine Griezmann proved the matchwinner as Atletico Madrid defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 on Saturday.
It was a special day for Griezmann as he presented the World Cup to the home crowd.
"I hope I can take this club as high as possible," he explained in an interview with BeIN Sport.
"We didn't play a great match.
"I don't know if that's through fatigue, but we're going to improve and we must keep working."
Prior to kick-off the French international was joined by Thomas Lemar and Lucas Hernandez, with the trio presenting the World Cup trophy to supporters at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
"We're happy with that celebration," he intimated.
"We wanted to celebrate with our fans and enjoy the moment."
