MATCH RATINGS: Melbourne Victory simply class apart

Melbourne Victory returned from Adelaide on Monday morning quietly confident of doing the Double after their performance yesterday. The Reds simply couldn't live with a rampant Victory as Aurelio Vidmar's decision to tinker with his line-up in the closing weeks of the season continues to backfire.

From the final four, Melbourne were head-and-shoulders the best performers on the weekend.

Melbourne Victory:

M Theoklitos: 7 - Critical save in first-half from Kristian Sarkies. Virtual spectator after halftime.
S Ryall: 6 - Consistent, solid, without being spectacular.
K Muscat: 7 - Outstanding second-half. Influence on game grew.
R Vargas: 6 - Solid, kept Paul Agostino quiet.
M Kemp: 5 - Quiet game on return to hometown.
N Ward: 7 - Surprisingly hooked in second-half for Brebner. Great link-up play at critical moments in game.
B Celeski: 6 - Solid in middle of park, mopped up well in defensive role.
T Pondeljak: 6 - Created opener. Quieter in second-half.
C Hernandez: 8 - Excellent performance. Refused to be knocked off the ball when in possession, never hid and always a threat.
A Thompson: 9 - Outstanding second-half, Melbourne's most dangerous player. Really should've finished with hat-trick.
D Allsopp: 8 - Produced masterclass centre-forward performance. Great avenue for Melbourne's midfield when under pressure, ran Adelaide's defence ragged and deserved his superbly taken goal.

Subs: E Berger (65' for Kemp) 6, G Brebner (56' for Ward) 6, Lopez (76' for Hernandez) 5, N Fabiano, M Langerak (gk)

Adelaide United:

E Galekovic: 7 - Made string of impressive saves. Slow to react for Allsopp's goal.
M Marrone: 5 - Hustled off ball too easily. Big ask from Vidmar to perform in only his second senior start.
S Ognenovski: 7 - Rattled in the first-half by Allsopp and Thompson. Bounced back after the break, though caught out by Allsopp for second goal.
M Valkanis: 4 - Couldn't live with Allsopp and Thompson.
S Jamieson: 7 - Bright, effective going forward.
F Barbieri: 5 - Struggled to make impact as game wore on. Eventually over run by rampant Melbourne midfield.
P Reid: 7 - Best Adelaide performer on the night, without making big impact.
L Pantelis: 5 - Started brightly, but wasn't alone in falling off the radar after halftime.
K Sarkies: 6 - Had Adelaide's best chance in the first-half before limping off before the break.
P Agostino: 4 - Zero influence on game. Looked short of match fitness.
T Dodd: 5 - Never in game. Missed open chance midway through second-half. Adelaide needed more from main catalyst.
Subs: Alemao (41' for Sarkies) 4, Cristiano (72' for Agostino) 5, D Mullen (45' for Valkanis) 5, Griffiths, Birighitti
