Mata Snr key to Newcastle keeping Rondon

The father of Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is key to Newcastle United keeping hold of West Brom striker Salomon Rondon.

The Evening Chronicle says Mata and Rondon have never played together but the pair share one thing in common: they are both represented by Mata's father, Juan Manuel Mata Rodriguez, who will be taking a lot of calls this summer.

Rondon wants to stay at Newcastle - he has already made that clear - but it's hard to envisage him returning to West Brom and playing in the Championship next season if the Magpies decide against making his loan move permanent.

Mata Snr has been working as an agent since 1990 and works alongside Pablo Martinez, his partner in Latin America, as Rondon's representative. It was Martinez who handled the final negotiations with Newcastle on the day Rondon signed last summer but Mata Sr was recognised as the intermediary for the transaction, itself, by the FA.
