Manchester United star Juan Mata would be delighted if teammate David De Gea signs a new contract.

Rumours in the English press suggest that De Gea is on the verge of signing a new, six-year contract with United.

It would commit his best years to the club and make him the team's second highest earner.

Mata, a veteran member of the squad, would be very happy if his friend and world class keeper De Gea stuck around.

"David is the best or one of the best goalkeepers in the world, for sure," Mata said to BBC Sport.

"He is one of my best friends, so I want him to stay. On a professional level, it will be great for us if he stays because he will give us many points over the next seasons."
