New Roma director of sport Ricky Massara has paid tribute to Monchi.

The Spaniard left Roma by mutual consent last week.

“Monchi had great professionalism and dedication, but also suffering that this season did not live up to the same standards as last term, so we will try to reverse that suffering over the next 12 games," Massara told Sky Sport Italia.

“Finishing in the top four is fundamental for all Serie A clubs. Having said that, Roma are a solid club who over the last few years have always qualified for the Champions League, including two times in second place, with in one case a new club record for points.

“Right now, we have to focus on Empoli and it's a game we absolutely have to win."
