Javier Mascherano admits it's time Liverpool started challenging seriously for the Premiership title.

He said: "Over the last two months we have gone very well in the Premier League and Europe. Now we need to make sure we repeat it from the start of the season next time. We have the quality and the players who want to win and we will do everything we can to make it happen.

"We know we made some mistakes when it came to the Premier League earlier in the season. We need to look to the future now. We need to lift ourselves and play to the end of the season but what is very important is we make sure we start the next one in the right way.

"We need to make sure that we play the way we have been doing for the past two or three months but from the beginning next time. If we can manage that, then I have no doubts we will make the breakthrough and be fighting to win trophies. We have played Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan recently and done well against them all, so we know what we are capable of.

"I know that we have got the players with the quality to see us winning trophies - I really believe in this team. For a lot of the other guys, it is their first season in England while for others - like me - it is only their second.

"Next time, when everyone has that little bit more experience and understanding of English football, we will be a lot better and can definitely challenge for the titles."
