Sylvain Marveaux insists winning Cups are important to the Newcastle United players.

The Toon board admitted, in leaked minutes from a meeting with supporters, that cup competitions are not a priority.

However, after booking a last-eight clash against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup, midfielder Marveaux said: "The players take the cups very seriously.

"Don't forget most of the squad have not won anything.

"One or two are lucky enough to have medals and now the rest of us want to as well."
