Martin Odegaard happy with Real Madrid start

Martin Odegaard was happy to start for Real Madrid in their 0-0 draw with former club Real Sociedad.

The Norwegian spent last season on loan in San Sebastian and lined up in midfield against his former team-mates as Zinedine Zidane included him ahead of Casemiro in midfield.

"[Zidane asked me to] help the team, make chances and goals, be between the lines and attack," Odegaard told Movistar+.

It was the first outing alongside his current team-mates for many years, despite the fact that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were at the club when he made his debut.

"I understand them well but it's always difficult at the start," Odegaard said when asked about getting used to his new companions in the middle of the park.

"They are players at an incredible level and that makes it easier for me."

Overall, Odegaard was happy but not entirely satisfied.

"I feel good but we're missing the win," he stated.

"It doesn't leave me very happy, although it's good to play for Real Madrid again.

"It was a game against friends and good people."
