Martin O'Neill in the frame for Stoke job

Former Leicester City boss Martin O'Neill is in the frame for the Stoke City job.

The Irish Independent says O'Neill could be in line for a return to club management with Stoke City, who yesterday sacked Gary Rowett.

The ex-Derby boss was Stoke's first choice when they were looking for a new manager last January, but he turned them down and that led to a saga involving then Ireland boss O'Neill.

The 66-year-old Derryman is keen to return to club management and he is understood to on the Stoke shortlist after former Fulham boss Slavkisa Jokanovic turned down the chance to replace Rowett, who is the third manager to leave the club in 12 months.

With Sam Allardyce ruling himself out and David Moyes likely to wait for a bigger club to come calling, Luton's Nathan Jones and Bristol City manager Gary Johnson are also under consideration.
