Mariners' Simon rushed in for Australia's all-or-nothing Beijing date

The Olyroos need to defeat the Ivory Coast tonight to progress past the group stage but will have to do so without their best attacking player.

The Melbourne Victory marksman will be a huge loss for the squad and is expected to be replaced by Nikita Rukavytsya in the starting line-up.

Central Coast Mariners striker Matt Simon has been called into the squad to provide extra depth but it yet to be added officially.

"There should be no issue with getting it done in time, it’s simply a case of waiting for the relevant processes to unfold," a team spokesman told Foxsports.

"Archie has been seen by the FIFA doctor on site and the reports and his scans have to go to the FIFA and the AOC medical commission. We hope to have confirmation from them tonight.

"Then the AOC have to manage the process of getting Matt accredited but hopefully it will be fine."
