Chelsea could miss out on the signing of Gonzalo Higuain.
According to ESPN FC journalist Gabriele Marcotti, Higuain will not sign for the Blues.
And he claims it is because they would rather invest the money in offering a new deal to star man Eden Hazard.
Chelsea are desperate to add an attacker to the team, given the lack of output from Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.
"I think there's a number of issues here," Marcotti told the Guillem Balague Transfer Show.
"The first one is from Chelsea's perspective, Chelsea haven't qualified for the Champions League in two of the past three seasons.
"And they've had to make enormous payouts to Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
"On top of that, Chelsea have four players who are very important to them who go out of contract in 2020.
"They have to either extend or sell in the summer - that's Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
"Another factor is Chelsea have just spent €64m (£57.5m) on Christian Pulisic so Chelsea aren't exactly rolling in money.
"It's important for them to finish top four this season but they have budgets.
"If Higuain were in the Premier League he would be one of the top five paid players.
"And that's on his current wages and as players move they like to get a bump in wages.
"Chelsea are going to be very reluctant to take on a multi-year deal for a guy that's not going to have any resale value, for a guy who is on an enormous wage.
"They would rather go and give the money to Eden Hazard to try to get him to stay.
"Right now, Higuain makes about £3m a year more than Eden Hazard.
"So obviously that is going to be a problem."
