Real Madrid wing-back Marcelo was sorry to hear about Manchester United's sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Marcelo had some words of comfort for his old boss.

"[His sacking] is a pity as he is a great coach and for him to be without a club is a pity," said the Brazilian at a Club World Cup media conference.

"It's not for me to say if he should come to Real Madrid, but I really appreciate all he did for me at this club."

The 30-year-old emphasised the togetherness in the group when asked about the club's success and what it stems from.

"It comes from the union we have within the dressing room," he added.

"The base of team has been playing a long time together, which has brought us to where we are now.

"But we still have a lot of hunger to win trophies."
