Gregorio Manzano is ready to hit the ground running as new coach of Atletico Madrid.

Manzano, who also led the club for a season in 2003-04, signed a one-year deal on Wednesday and at his presentation to the media outlined his intention to build a squad of "young, hungry players".

He said: "It will be a strong Atletico Madrid and we will try to play, within our possibilities, good football.

"It will be an Atletico Madrid built around young, hungry players.

"The basic idea is that we will have young players accompanied by some more experienced figures.

"I believe in myself, I believe in my work and I believe in the squad.

"I ask the fans to trust me. I will not cheat or disappoint you."
