Sadio Mane admits Cristiano Ronaldo urged him to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich last summer.

Mane forced through a move to Bayern and admits he discussed the decision with Ronaldo while still at Anfield.

He told BILD: "Germany and the Bundesliga are often underestimated. I followed the Bundesliga from England and so I wasn't surprised: my opinion was confirmed.

"I'm sure that we will soon see even more Premier League stars in the Bundesliga. The league is very even, just look at the struggle at the top.

"Then there is the atmosphere in the stadiums: why would anyone say no to the Bundesliga? Recent successes also show this in the Champions League.

"I met Ronaldo in Mallorca before the start of the season, when my transfer was already decided. He congratulated me and said: 'Go to a big club. This is a big step for you!'"
