Ferguson is excited at what the Argentina striker can add to the title-winning United side of last season.
"The boy has got something exceptional in him. We experienced it in the last game against West ham at Old Trafford. He was a real handful to us.
"Tevez trained with us on Friday and Saturday. I was surprised how well he did. He looked quite sharp.
"It would be nice to think I could have him available for the Reading game (next weekend), but if not then, I'm sure the following week.
"I can see (Tevez and Wayne Rooney playing together). I have read all these opinions about the two of them being identical. I don't think they are at all.
"What you can say is they both have a similar physique, they are both two-footed, they are both quickish, they can both beat a man. I don't think it's a bad thing in terms of the similarities.
"When they get playing with each other they will hopefully get an understanding about where they are playing."
