MAN UTD: Zlatan, Pogba & Bailly…can they help Mourinho send Man Utd back to the top?

It's been an effective first transfer window for Jose Mourinho as a Manchester United manager.

After three campaigns of mediocre football at Old Trafford, the Portuguese manager had to pull off some incredible transfers to take the Red Devils into the right direction once again, especially without Champions League football this season.

When looking back at the transfers they have completed, only one or two teams would have been able to bring these additions all in one window.

The questions is – can the four new signings play a significant role and help Manchester United win the Premier League once again?

Manchester United – 2016/17

Key signings

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – from PSG on a free transfer

An introduction for Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn't really needed.

A lot of Premier League fans have already predicted the Swedish striker to have a poor season, but has already scored three league goals in three games.

With Ibrahimovic as your striker you will be guaranteed goals on a weekly basis as he also offers leadership/character towards the younger players in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The 34-year-old has the perfect height and physique to thrive in England.

Fantastic signing for the Red Devils.

Paul Pogba – from Manchester United for £89m

Pogba returned home after a protracted transfer wrangle with Juventus.

The French international is the perfect player United have been missing in midfield, returning to Old Trafford at the right time.

After completing a transfer for a world-record fee, Pogba will have to do a lot this season to prove he was worth every penny. With only few days away until the Manchester derby, a lot of eyes will surely be on him.

A massive upgrade in midfield for United compared to what they had last season.

Will the fee be worth it?

Eric Bailly – from Villarreal for £32m

Spending more than £30m on Bailly, who wasn't a weekly starter for Villarreal last season, had many fans thinking who on earth is Mourinho signing.

But when it comes to transfer deals, especially with Jose Mourinho as your manager, you must have faith in him.

Bailly, 22, seemed like a signing for the future, once making his first appearance for United he surprised the supporters as well as the manager and has forced Chris Smalling out of the first team.

It will be a big blow for the side once the Ivory Coast international goes away at the beginning of 2017 for the African Cup of Nations.

First class buy for Manchester United even if no one knew him last year.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – from Borussia Dortmund for around £27m

"Lack creativity" was one of the most used terms when the supporters at Old Trafford reviewed their side's performance throughout the course of last season.

Now they are in luck with the signing of Mkhitaryan who hasn't broke into the first team, yet.

The Armenian was Borussia Dortmund's best player last season, netting on 11 occasions and completing 15 assists in the Bundesliga!

World class signing who will bring plenty of creativity.

Overall

The excitement around Manchester is at fever pitch.

Mourinho has made some absolutely sublime signings while losing no key players.

There is no reason to suggest the Red Devils cannot vie for the Premier League title with this group of players, but the second string, or fringe players, will really need to step up if they are to be successful either domestically or in the Europa League.
