Manchester United have narrowed in on centre-half Lisandro Martinez instead of Pau Torres.
According to the Express, United boss Erik ten Hag was in discussions with the club about the ideal centre-back to sign for his project.
After much deliberation, United have settled on Ajax and Argentina star Martinez.
The versatile defender, who can also play left-back and defensive midfield, is also wanted by Arsenal.
Torres has been a long-term United target, but they chose to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid last season instead.
For his part, Martinez is keen on a Premier League move, and would be happy to join either United or Arsenal.
