The Spanish star, who represented the likes of Valencia and Chelsea during a glittering career, is dealing with personal heartbreak at present.

Spanish reports stated his mother, Marta Garcia, passed away after a long battle with an illness.

She was described in the media as a "very dear, good and loving person."

United confirmed the news with a somber tweet on Monday: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Juan Mata's mother, Marta Garcia. Thinking of you and your family, Juan."
