Man Utd veteran Giggs named PFA Player of the Year

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has been crowned the 2008/09 PFA Player of the Year. The 35-year old was the sentimental favourite for the award and despite starting just 12 times this season (34 appearances overall), was named the best player in the country, beating Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

It was the biggest individual honour in Giggs' 18-year career after winning the Young Player of the Year twice early on.

"It's right up there, with personal accolades it's the best to have as it's voted by your fellow players," Giggs said.

"I've been fortunate to win a lot of trophies, I won the Young Player award twice but this is the big one."
