Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has said that he will be ready to take his chance whenever his called up by manager Jose Mourinho.
The 35-year-old is yet to feature in a Premier League game this season but staked his claim for a spot in Mourinho's starting XI by putting in an impressive goalscoring performance in the 3-1 EFL Cup win over Northampton Town on Wednesday.
"Often when you make a lot of changes, you might bring in a number of young promising lads in," said Carrick ahead of the weekend's league clash with Leicester City.
"But I think if you look at the team tonight, it was pretty much all senior players. I think it's what the manager wants. He wants a strong team and we've got a lot of strong seniors in our squad.
"As a player you're going to sit out some games. You've got to be ready and be prepared for when you're called upon and that's what I want to do."
